The Johnnies have their eyes on big men in 2015.

For those who wonder if the St. John's coaching staff only recruits guards, know that Steve Lavin has shown some level of interest in Stephen Zimmerman, the top-10 level player in the Class of 2015.

A Scout.com interview with Zimmerman's mother Lori cited her saying that they heard from Coach Steve Lavin ($ req'd). She didn't clearly indicate if he called just after midnight on the first day rising juniors are eligible to be contacted - June 15th - but St. John's has their name in the group, enough to be mentioned in an interview.

It may be a long shot - and St. John's has reportedly looked at elite big men Jessie Govan from Manhasset and Cheick Diallo from Our Savior New American - but the staff is working on snagging an elite recruiting class in the future.

Of course, so is Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, UCLA, and Duke, with all of the schools chasing Zimmerman hard. Stephen Zimmerman plays at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, and is a nimble, skilled, athletic big man who can run, shoot, and has upside.

Or, let the video do the talking...

Barring any early departures to the professional ranks, St. John's will have at least four scholarships available in 2015, with D`Angelo Harrison, Jamal Branch, Phil Greene IV, and Sir`Dominic Pointer graduating. JaKarr Sampson, Rysheed Jordan, and Chris Obekpa all could be candidates to leave before their four years of eligibility are exhausted.
