This week in recruiting: Malik Beasley + Amar Alibegovic visit St. John's

Bruce Bennett

Mid-August and recruiting has stepped up for St. John's, with the first of a set of scoring prospects coming to visit and a late-season 2014 recruit in the house. Plus, a top recruit will be in the biggest late-summer all-star game, while another will stay his decision until the late period.

Malik Beasley visited St. John's after the Big Strick Classic

Beasley, the 2015 scoring guard out of Georgia, came up to New York for the Big Strick Classic at Gauchos Gym and checked out St. John's with his parents Deena and Mike.

Zagsblog adds: "He said Lavin, who watched him at AAU Nationals in Louisville, has told him he could 'make an impact right away.'" Beasley is visiting Madison Square Garden today, per his Twitter.

Beasley - Big Strick Classic Highlights

Malik Beasley also played in the Big Strick Classic - highlights and interview below. He was co-MVP of the game.

Amar Alibegovic at St. John's for his official visit

Amar Alibegovic, the Bosnian forward and three-point shooter, is in town for an official visit

Or maybe he just started his official visit?

Either way, Lavin continues his pursuit of the 6'7" forward whose father played NCAA ball; will he commit? If he commits, when will he be available/ eligible? The process for foreign players, as St. John's fans know, can be a challenge.

Isaiah Briscoe waiting until the spring

Isaiah Briscoe may have changed his commitment date to get a better view of the local teams.

And yet, his list isn't restricted to St. John's, Rutgers, and Seton Hall; Arizona, who took Allonzo Trier's commitment last week, is also still on his list with Villanova.

Is he also waiting to see what surprise roster spots open in the spring among elite teams? That's a great strategy for recruits, but is one of the most challenging aspects of recruiting for college coaches. Does a team hang on to hope, or take other players at the same positions to fill out a roster with ballers who are gung-ho about being at the program?

Cheick Diallo named to the Elite 24 roster

Diallo, the 6'9" top-ten forward, will be back in New York and showing out at the Elite 24 in a few weeks.

Can St. John's land Alibegovic and Beasley? Are you excited about the momentum in recruiting, or do you have some comments/ issues about recruiting? Let's start a discussion below in the comments.
