Big East Coaches' Poll and Preseason Honors: St. John's picked 5th, Rysheed Jordan top rookie

Marquette chosen to win the league, as Creighton's McDermott is strong favorite for Player of the Year.

The Big East Conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll and individual honors at Wednesday's media day at Chelsea Piers.

Marquette has been chosen to win the conference, followed by Georgetown and Creighton.  St. John's was the fourth team to receive first place votes (2).

As expected, Creighton star forward Doug McDermott has been tabbed the Big East's preseason Player of the Year.  St. John's freshman point guard Rysheed Jordan received honors as the preseason Rookie of the Year.

Three other Red Storm players were recognized by the league in the release.  Junior guard D`Angelo Harrison is a member of the conference on its all-Big East first team.  Sophomores JaKarr Sampson and Chris Obekpa were chosen to the Big East second team and honorable mention list respectively.
