How tough is St. John's schedule? ESPN ranks the non-conference

ESPN takes a look at the non-conference schedules of the Big East and other major conferences.

USA TODAY Sports

ESPN has been ranking the non-conference schedules of the major conferences. For the Big East, they list St. John's with a solid "6" of a schedule, with games against Syracuse and on the road against Wisconsin.

Per Dana O'Neil:

The Red Storm’s top two games are pretty good, and bonus points for playing the Badgers in Sioux Falls. After Penn State in Brooklyn, they face a decent test from either Ole Miss or Georgia Tech. The rest isn’t much to look at.

The Georgetown Hoyas earn their 10 with an early season game in South Korea against Oregon, a game at Kansas with incoming freshman phenom Andrew Wiggins, and a neutral site match against Michigan State, who should be a top-10 team all season, in New York City.

Marquette's 10... a little more suspect, despite Southern being a good SWAC team and New Mexico returning much of their core except Tony Snell. Ohio State and Wisconsin are good matchups, but it's not on the same level as Michigan State, playing a rising Oregon in Korea, and Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse.

(Also note that Villanova gets a bump for the "competitiveness" of Big Five games. That's just not objective. But the Battle for Atlantis - where no team will actually dive and come up with the lost city - and a trip to Syracuse are notable.)

Seton Hall brings up the rear with a 2, as they stay local except for a trip to Mercer in Atlanta where they will play in the 3,200-capacity Hawkins Arena.
