After the fourth editions of both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll were released earlier today, let's take a look at where the voters believe various teams in the Big East stand after an exciting slate of games this past week.
After an impressive showing at the Legends Classic in Brooklyn in which they took down then-14th-ranked VCU on Monday night and 19th-ranked Michigan on Wednesday, Villanova remains the top-ranked team in the Big East for the fourth straight week, coming in at 10th in the AP and 9th in the Coaches Poll.
The undefeated Wildcats will first go on the road for a matchup with La Salle on Wednesday before facing St. Joseph's on Saturday.
After Villanova, however, the only other Big East team to crack either of the polls was Butler, who achieved their first ever top-25 ranking as a Big East member after taking over the 23rd spot in the AP.
A huge win over 5th-ranked North Carolina in the "Battle 4 Atlantis" on Wednesday likely catapulted the Bulldogs into the rankings, and although they would lose the following day to Oklahoma, a victory over Georgetown in an early Big East preview on Friday cemented their top 25 spot. Despite the impressive week, Butler did not appear in the Coaches Poll.
Providence nearly made their first appearance in the AP top 25 this week, but fell for the first time out of the Coaches poll, receiving 50 votes in the AP and 56 in the Coaches. The Friars suffered their first loss of the season yesterday after being beaten handily by Kentucky in Rupp Arena, 58-38. Sitting at 6-1, Providence has only one game this week in a road trip to Boston College on Friday.
Both Creighton and Georgetown each received a decent amount of top 25 votes this week as well, however neither one of them were able to come very close to cracking the polls. The Blue Jays of Creighton fell out of the AP top 25 after a bad loss to Mississippi on Friday, while the Hoyas scored an outstanding overtime win in Atlantis over Florida on Wednesday before falling to both 2nd-ranked Wisconsin and Butler, as mentioned above.

St. John's getting closer to being ranked
Finally, both St. John's and Seton Hall each received votes for the first time this season, rounding out the conference's total to seven teams receiving top 25 votes for the week. The Red Storm received five votes in the AP and three in the Coaches after defeating Minnesota in the NIT semifinals before losing a hard-fought championship game to 10th-ranked Gonzaga on Friday.
Seton Hall received just five votes in the AP and none in the Coaches.
Big East Weekly Awards
Rounding out today's news in the conference, Seton Hall's Sterling Gibbs was named Big East Player of the Week after putting up a career-high 40 points in the finals of the Paradise Jam against Illinois State last Monday.
Marquette's Duane Wilson was named Big East Rookie of the Week after leading the Golden Eagles to a 3rd-place finish in the Old Spice Classic and scoring 30 points in a win over Tennessee.
Finally, the Red Storm's D`Angelo Harrison was named to the Big East Honor Roll this week, joining Butler's Kellen Dunham, DePaul's Myke Henry, Georgetown's D`Vauntes Smith-Rivera, and Villanova's Dylan Ennis.
