St. John's women's soccer team continued their roll on a crisp afternoon in Pennsylvania - and the Big East's Honor Roll has noted their efforts, naming two players to the Big East Women's Weekly Honor Roll.
Senior Caitlyn McLaughlin, a St. John’s forward from Virginia, knocked in her second game-winning goal of the season against Villanova in the 70th minute of a tight, scoreless game outside of Philadelphia. McLaughlin scored off of a cross from Rachel Daly, who also helped the attack with four shots (one on goal).
No 1-0 victory is complete with strong goalkeeping. Sophomore Diana Poulin from Happauge, NY, recorded five saves against Villanova on Sunday afternoon en route to her league-leading sixth shutout, including third in league play. Poulin saved two Villanova shots on goal. after St. John's took the lead.
The Red Storm have recorded their best start in Big East play at 4-0-1 after five games, and are in a three-way tie with DePaul and Georgetown in the standings.
The women's team are in action this Thursday evening at 7:00 PM against fellow top-of-table team Georgetown.
The men's side earned no honors this week; the team lost to league leader Marquette in Milwaukee despite shutting out the Golden Eagles in the first half.
The men are 4-5-3 with six games left in the regular season.
