The St. John's Red Storm men's and women's soccer teams ended last year on parallel paths.
Both St. John's men's and women's teams made the NCAA Tournament. And both lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This year, each team returns a star that enters the season with accolades - St. John's defenseman Tim Parker and the explosive scorer Rachel Daly, who appear on both the 2014 MAC (Missouri Athletic Club) Hermann Trophy Watch List from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and on Top Drawer Soccer's list of Best XI's.
Parker was on the Hermann watch list last season as well. He has started 61 of his 62 games with the Red Storm and never left the field. He was a first-team All Big East honoree last year. Tim Parker is a third-team member of the Top Drawer Socer Best XI's list.
Daly is the returning Big East Newcomer of the Year and Big East Offensive Player of the Year. She scored 23 goals and netted 50 points, scoring or assisting on 14 of the Red Storm's 18 goals in conference play and the NCAA Tournament. On Top Drawer Soccer, she lands on the first team.
The women open at Belson Stadium against St. Francis of Pennsylvania on Auguest 22 before traveling up the Hudson to face Army in West Point. The men's side starts the season on the road at West Virginia on August 29, and then travel to Penn State on August 31 before opening at home against Hofstra on September 4th.
